Billy Gilmour to stay at Chelsea after impressing Thomas Tuchel in training

Source: Evening Standard

Billy Gilmour is set to stay at Chelsea and remain part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the second half of the season.

The Scottish midfielder had been linked with a loan move to get regular football in the as he looks to cement his place in the Scotland squad for the Euros.

Tuchel has left Gilmour out of the Chelsea squad for his first two games in charge against Wolves and Burnley.

Southampton were keen on a loan move for the 19-year-old but he now looks set to remain at Chelsea and be given an opportunity to get game time under Tuchel.

New Chelsea manager Tuchel has admitted doubts over whether Gilmour has the physicality to play centre midfield in the Premier League.

But Tuchel did praise him last week, saying: “I have a good impression. He is a very strategic guy, very high level of game understanding. Very good in the first contact. Very clever in positioning.”

Report: Leeds reject bid from Swansea City for attacker

Source: The Boot Room

The Yorkshire Evening Post have quoted The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath on their deadline-day blog (Monday, 11.31AM) that Leeds United have rejected a loan approach from Championship side Swansea City for striker Sam Greenwood.

Greenwood, who turned 19 last week, has starred since joining Leeds from Arsenal in the summer of 2020 – albeit for the Yorkshire side’s second string. His form in Premier League 2 has seen him even earn his senior debut.

The England Under-18 international has scored an impressive six goals in nine Premier League 2 outings – and that has seen Marcelo Bielsa hand him the chance to shine in the first team, but his debut came in the 3-0 loss to Crawley Town.

The Evening Post have reported – as per McGrath – that Leeds have turned down an offer for Greenwood from high-flying Swansea. It is believed Bielsa wants to keep £3million (Mail) Greenwood at Elland Road for the second half of the season.

ARRIOLA LATEST

It's also understood that Paul Arriola will not be joining the club from DC United.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a loan switch to the Liberty Stadium this month.

Arriola scored twice for the United States Men's National team in their 7-0 thrashing of Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday night.

But the versatile American is not expected to complete a move to south Wales.

I've heard that wolves are allowing mgw to go out on loan again.

Swansea City are not targeting a move for Leeds United striker Sam Greenwood, sources have told WalesOnline.

Reports have suggested the Whites have rejected a loan approach from the Swans for the 19-year-old.

It's also been claimed that Marcelo Bielsa is keen to keep the forward at Elland Road for the remainder of the campaign.

And sources have played down talk of a proposed swoop from Swansea for the Englishman.

Greenwood joined Leeds from Arsenal in 2020 but has been restricted to just one senior appearance for the club, with that coming in the Whites' 3-0 FA Cup third round loss to Crawley Town in January.

I think it will be a long time before Swansea and Leeds do any business.

That'll be a shame for us. I was looking forward to seeing him rip up the league for the rest of the season.

According to reports now the only deal likely to see completed incoming at the Swans today is the one for Morgan Whittaker.

Media reports are suggesting that there will be no move for an outright Number 9

Outgoing possible couple of youngsters on loan and the club hope to finally get rid of Asoro but nothing insignificant

If it ends like that are we happy with the club's dealings in the window?

Steve Cooper is desperate to bring in a striker while he would also like cover for Connor Roberts at RWB.

As things stand, Morgan Whittaker looks set to be the only incoming at Swansea today.

The club's owners will dictate how next 10 hours pan out. #Swans #dcfc #DeadlineDay

We are in the enviable position of sitting 2nd in the table with over half the season gone. The danger of bringing in too many new faces is that it could upset the balance that got us in this position in the first place!

Maybe a case of be careful what you wish for.

Definitely needed cover for Roberts though, if he gets banned or injured we are fooked.

There have been conflicting reports coming out of the Liberty today about deadline day signings

Whilst some media outlets have reported that Whittaker is likely to be the only addition to the squad, others are suggesting that there could be a few arrivals coming in today with Paul Arriola still potentially on the cards despite seemingly dead in the water earlier today and also the club are keen to bring in someone to provide much needed cover for Connor Roberts.

Cooper would still like a traditional Number 9 for his squad but is being blocked by insufficient funds and also not able to get the player he wants - Whittaker will play a bigger part than maybe initially thought this season.

As someone new to Swansea (here from the Sounders community) it's interesting that Cooper wants another striker despite the fact that he doesn't seem inclined to use subs much. It's a bit confusing.
Meanwhile the Championship continues its new trend of raiding MLS for talent. Just saw that Barnsley signed their own MLS youngster Daryl Dike--a 20 yr old who is huge and raw but surprised folks with his production last year (8goals, 4 assists in first year of professional football). and Uruguayan Diego Rossi to Reading looks likely. The latter is a big surprise. Many have Rossi pegged as more like a $20 million player headed for a Top 5 league. I know nothing of Reading except they are in contention for promotion, but if their need is really fast and skilled goal scorer, this is bad news for the rest of the Championship. As high as folks in the US are on Morris, they are next level high on Rossi....
