Swansea City's Jordan Morris transfer details plus latest in pursuit of Aston Villa's Conor Hourihane

Source: Wales Online

Here are the full details of Swansea's transfer swoop for Jordan Morris as well as the latest on their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane

Swansea City are hopeful of signing Jordan Morris on loan from Seattle Sounders ahead of their FA Cup fourth round clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Steve Cooper has been determined to bolster his forward options in the January transfer window having lost Viktor Gyokeres, Morgan Gibbs-White and Kasey Palmer since the turn of the year.

And the Swans are poised to make Morris their second signing of the winter window having already brought in goalkeeper Ben Hamer from Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

Swansea have agreed terms with Seattle Sounders and Morris himself, and are thrashing out the final details with Major League Soccer chiefs.

The 26-year-old attacker is expected to pass a visa check and - having had an endorsement from the Football Association of Wales - it is hoped he will fly to south Wales on Wednesday.

Morris - who has scored 10 goals in 39 appearances for the United States of America - will join on loan for the remainder of the campaign, and it's understood that Swansea have the option to make the deal permanent.

The Swans will not pay a loan fee for the frontman, although they will pay a high proportion of his wages.

He is not expected to need to quarantine and could be available for Saturday's cup contest with Forest at the Liberty Stadium.

Meanwhile, Swansea have made contact with Aston Villa over a potential loan move for Conor Hourihane.

The 29-year-old would bring in some much needed experience to Swansea's midfield, although there is yet to be any significant progress in a potential deal.

Bournemouth, Watford and Middlesbrough have been credited with showing an interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

Elsewhere, it's understood there is no truth in the rumours linking Jordon Garrick to Inter Miami.

And amid reports linking Yan Dhanda with clubs including Leeds United, Marseille and Atalanta, the club have confirmed to WalesOnline that they have not received any offers for the No.10.

Boss Dean Smith may allow striker Keinan Davis out on loan if Wesley proves his fitness following his 12-month lay-off with a knee injury.

Stoke, Huddersfield, Swansea and Bournemouth are among the clubs said to be interested in the 22-year-old.

Cooper seems to be compiling a side with both youthful vigour and old hand quality and experience.

So, thus far we've added Ben Hamer, and are likely to swap Gyokeres & Palmer for Hourihane & Morris.

Any more for any more? You could argue that we need a MGW replacement, but seeing as we brought Palmer in to cover him anyway we're still level and look to have upgraded on quality.

How about getting mgw as a replacement for mgw? Hes not doing himself any favours at wolves with him liking tweets condemning the manger.

Could we afford him?
TBH he was still a bit hit and miss before his injury but the performance he gave in his return cameo was the first time I’ Bee excited by a player for quite a while.
If he’s affordable get him back.

Midfield is what I was thinking IF we needed one more. Maybe Cooper would like another forward as an injury to Ayew/Lowe or Morris would leave us dependent upon Cullen again if he doesn't go out on loan.

We have been so lucky with ayew and lowe, it could be luck or how the physios look after them, if morris can hit the ground running we will have enough forwards to see us through and if our luck runs out we do have cullen and routledge to fall back on.

Regards the midfield we didnt use palmer alot and we never used mgw before he went back and we managed ok, we now have hourihane plus dhanda and now byers back from injury so touch wood I think we have enough to carry us through until the end of the season.

The injury we could least afford at the moment is Connor Roberts as there is no ready made back-up. Cooper may try to use Garrick in that role as he did against Stevenage, but if there’s a gap in the squad then that’s probably it.

Naughton is the replacement for Connor.
Different type of player to Connor, admittedly, but still a strong understudy should he be needed.
We’ll be well stocked at centre back with Bennett’s recovery so Naughton can switch to fullback.

As you say, a different type of player. Can’t see Naughton giving us that attacking threat that Connor provides. In a back four then yes no problem but not so sure as a wing back.

Wouldn't argue against the idea that Connor has developed into a better attacking option, but Naughton will be more than solid enough stepping in there if needs be and is probably still a bit better/wiser on the back foot. Nice to have a player of his versatility available.

Have we got Hourihane then the way folk are talking on some threads? I'd be surprised and delighted if we beat Muff to him.

Edit - just seen Jaxs thread. Bluddy brilliant stuff.

Charlton eye £300,000 move for Exeter star Joel Randall with Swansea and Celtic also keen on the talented 21-year-old attacker

Source: Daily Mail

Charlton are hoping to steal a march in the race for Exeter starlet Joel Randall.

Randall is also wanted by Swansea and Celtic but the south Londoners have lined up an opening move worth in the region of £300,000 for the exciting attacker.

The 21-year-old, who can play on both flanks and also centrally, has been Exeter's star performer this season, scoring eight goals and setting up five more in 26 games.

Charlton's first approach is expected to be knocked back but they are willing to test Exeter's resolve with an improved offer for the wide man whose contract expires next year.

Though whether they can make a bid big enough to tempt Exeter remains to be seen with the League Two side hoping to secure a fee in the region of £1m.

Exeter are also hoping to keep hold of Randall this month with only an offer that is too good to turn down likely to change their minds.

Randall is latest Exeter produced player who is tipped for big things after Matt Grimes, Ollie Watkins and Ethan Ampadu.

He is rated as a Premier League player in the making who some at the St James Park club feel is capable of surpassing them all.

Manager Matt Taylor said earlier this month: 'I'd be surprised if he is not on a lot of big club's lists, in terms of recruitment, but I think this window especially will be slightly different to other ones in relation to where the pandemic has put the football world and less money being around.

'We are always open to bids for our players, but we have a valuation for Joel that we certainly want to get towards.

'Joel has played 18 league games and as well as he has played in those games, we want him to move on when he has played 50, 60 possibly 100 games because he will be a better player for when he moves at that time.

'It's exciting times for young players at our club.

'It's exciting times for Joel Randall because they are going to be in demand, but they all have a price and a valuation, but they also have a job to do and Joel's job first and foremost is to win games of football for Exeter City.'
