Looking ahead a little, has Trump blown any chance for re-election?

I can't believe more moderate Republicans would support him now (already some who were planning to object today have changed course after what's happened) and if he runs as a third party candidate, he essentially hands the White House to the Democrats by splitting the Republican vote.

He knows he’s lost so he’s burning everything to the ground. He’s not looking beyond how much damage and pain he can inflict before he’s thrown from office.

Maybe so. If not him, then certainly Donny Jr was believed to be showing interest. Tonight may have ended all that.

There is talk of Pence (now Trump has thrown him under the bus) invoking the 25th Amendment. While I don't think it will happen, I wouldn't be surprised if his staff are very quietly checking if he would have the votes to do so.

There’s quite a few DA’s looking at various aspects of his personal/business life and once he looses power he won’t be able to claim immunity, he’ll lose the ability to hire and fire people and potentially influence investigations. People he may have stepped on or hurt whilst in office may be looking at getting their own back, his recent behaviour and today’s events may have alienated floating voters and supporters. His businesses could be hit as potential customers shun his hotels, and he and family could become persona non grata.

The Republican reaction will be interesting. Will today’s events see the Party refocus tilting away from Trump and acquiescing (or even discreetly supporting) Biden led investigations in to alleged wrong doing so Trump can be ostracised once and for all or will they defend him. Once in the hot seat, Biden needs to debunk the election stuff properly and then move forward.

I doubt there will ever be another president with the name trump, Ted Cruz is finished too, tom cotton made a wise move distancing himself from trump, he is probably the frontrunner now

The Republican establishment will pivot hard away from Trump today. It will be interesting to see if the voters follow them.

Once Biden takes office he needs to prosecute every individual who stormed and entered the Capitol for insurrection. His election is entirely legitimate and every claim of fraud that sought to delegitimise the result of this election has been thoroughly debunked.
