• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Fatal error from Lampard.

I give it 12 months before he's re-engineered the entire side to play sideways and backwards through him. Coventry will be a mid-table side soon enough, possession kings but with half the points.
In an imaginary world were they do get promoted. Grimes will get eaten apart in the Premier league. He won't be able to hide behind his slow pace walk when the team starts to lose and his back passing. If he thinks he can barely get away with that in championship, he will get found out fast with the pace of Premier league. Either way, agreed its gonna hurt them in long term.

Yes he’s just made him undroppable like Potter and his successors. Coventry fans will soon realize this and churn their guts before games then suffer the mild disappointment of watching their captain just potter around the centre back positions during matches not strictly doing anything. I likened him to the foreman’s favourite for keeping his workbench neat and tidy but disliked by his shop floor colleagues because he wasn’t actually doing anything……..

Frank lampard one of the premier leagues most decorated midfielders ever....im pretty sure majority of people would take his opinion on what makes a good midfielder/captain than a group of spectators from the stands. It didn't work out here in the end but a different set up with different players could well do 🤷‍♂️

Well if you’re asking us to ignore the evidence of our own eyes……..

Grimes was never the problem for me. He just did what was required of him by the managers that trusted him. It was our style of play under RM and LW that required much better players that made us frustrating and boring to watch. Rangers fans saying similar, even in that league.

I think the midfield was due a refresh but Grimes was and still is a good footballer at this level.

Lorded by some as the second coming and the sole reason we’ve not been back in the Premier League according to others.

I guess that can be put down to normal supporter reactions and the fact everyone has to have a polarising opinion these days.

What’s harder to work out for me is that managers clearly rate him very highly (at this level) and have built teams around him, whilst many players he’s played with are not so enamoured with him as a person or leader.

Not our problem but an interesting study nonetheless!

His stint in the team and in particular as captain have coincided with some of the most boring football I've ever seen played by any team in the history of the game.

It's no surprise that performances have improved since the handbrake (Grimes) had been taken off.

Managers love him because he is a safe pair of hands and will always govern you good metrics and stats.

The biggest problem is that his stats are very very rarely ever in an impactful area of the pitch. If he had a creative maestro ahead of him and his job was to collect the ball and release it to his creative partners he would be good and a safe pair of hands you could leave that job to.

However the likes of O’Brien and Galbraith and Stamenic have shown that you can be the holding midfielder and still have a meaningful impact ahead of you

He was how old when he left here? Look at the difference in the attitude of Galbraith - always driving the team forward and always an 8 or 9 out of 10. Grimes looked like he was gardening whilst smoking a pipe and was the most unambitious footballer I’ve ever seen in a Swansea shirt. Could barely be arsed to do the bare minimum
