Drakeford and Welsh NHS

Some of the facts just don't add up.
There are something like 270 hospital beds per 100,000 in Wales and 170 per 100,000 in England yet there are longer waiting lists in Wales.
There are 19 nurses in England for every one in Wales even though England has a population of 18 times that of Wales so England has more nurses per head.
Wales as considerably less doctors than in England also with a lower number of GPs per capita compared to England meaning there are proportionally fewer doctors in Wales than in England.
So we have more hospitals and beds per capita than England but less medical staff.
If you don't have equitable staff than you are probably going to see less patients I guess, no matter how many hospital beds there are.

I spoke to a former senior clinician earlier who is fully aware of patient requirements and hospital protocol and capacity. She burst out laughing about the claims of too many beds and other alternatives when? There are not enough post-surgery aftercare places like for example Gorseinon Hospital where patients tend to end up.

She mentioned patients in places like Gorseinon Hospital having to wait many months for tax payer funded social care in their own home in order to free up a bed.

So this causes bed blocking along the connective-chain, hence why there are ambulances queued up outside WAITING FOR A BED and patients on trolleys in A+E WAITING FOR A BED also.

O.A.P’s often get operated in Morriston and can end up being transferred to other places like NPT Hospital for post-surgery care because? THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH BEDS IN THE ORTHAPEDIC WARD etc and no post-surgery bed availability/support after that etc.

The black humour of the medical profession is legendary and I was told “So where are doctors meant to phone for a bed, Common Access Point?". LOL!!!!

And we lack social carers because the hours are long, 6 weekends in a row and pay just above the minimum wage.. where's that building burning meme with the house on fire

Apparently people with money have far less problems sourcing aftercare!

Like with everything its all about money!
I know of people, with money, who have found loopholes to get social service funding for their relatives at very expensive nursing homes to avoid using their own funds.

My wife works in Singleton and, as you have mentioned above, laughs at capacity and beds. Gorseinon is a sad shadow of what it was.

It’s a decent point, clumsily put and badly reported.
Its not patients are stuck in the various sections of A&E for days or a week or more, because there's no wards for them to go on and that's a fact that I've seen with my own eyes and been in that situation with my lad, Morriston Hospital is overloaded with patients with some serious reactions to this new Flu at the moment, my youngest has been ill and I was dreading him having to go in, but we had the doctor to call and he prescribed antibiotics and he's improved.

Drakeford hasn't got a clue.

He’ll probably be looked back upon as revolutionary but he seems to have a mental notch for rubbing people up the wrong way. Instead of blurting out what he believes to be correct in interviews he needs to prime people and present his case in a coherent manner. I read the article and he may have a point but there’s no substance to back it up and it just riles people up.
He's a bloody idiot never been any different, he's like a dictator.

Revolutionary :ROFLMAO: in refusing to give the go ahead for the the tunnel bypass, which probably would have created more business opportunities and therefore more jobs because of the better access, the 20mph to prevent accidents of which if you delve into it, it actually doesn't, its got its place I agree, but not as widespread as it is, its ridiculous and unnecessary and 50mph restrictions to stop pollution which actually creates congestion therefore causing more pollution, spent 120 million on more jobs and offices at the Senedd when that money could have been better spent elsewhere and signed off on projects in and around Cardiff whilst failing to address other areas of Wales, yep a revolutionary indeed, the man's an idealistic dinosaur.

Labour in Wales, just what have they actually done for Wales as a whole in the 25yrs they've been in power here?

The square root of fukall is the answer.

I told everyone back in 2020 when they brought in the minimum price per unit, that it was scandalous and would not stop there. And you laughed at me, well guess what you’re not laughing now.

They should double or triple the minimum price. It’ll reduce the number of women getting kicked in the head at least.

I am still laughing at you, just to confirm.

This thread gives me hope, maybe finally the sh1t has hit the fan many are waking up to the drastic need for change in Wales.

I still think Labour will be largest party in Welsh elections mind which is soul destroying and a little embarrassing.

I say this as someone who happily voted Labour in general election.

Did you vote for them?

Hard argue with any of this. As a nation we've gone backwards. The biggest disaster is not improving our road link into Wales, catastrophic decision. Imho.
