Grimes...

Yeah, caught the second half last night, there he was, hiding deep in midfield between the CBs stat padding, as per.

Best £4m we have ever received. Coventry will learn the hard way, as someone's said above, the infection is already setting in and over time it'll be very hard to shift.

Apparently Cabango was pissed that Grimes left after giving him a huge spiel about loyalty and even a presentation on why he should sign back on with the Swans with a new contract and then left the Swans himself with only days left to the window.

Does not surprise me.

Grimes always struck me as one of those types who would always insist publicly "it's not about me", when secretly it really was all about him, and he loved it being all about him too.

We are well rid.

I don’t think it was any coincidence when, in the season that we reached the playoff final, Ayew was on the pitch at the same time as Grimes.

He was the fulcrum of the team during that spell, and he acted more like a Captain should, more so than the passive role that Grimes took and always has taken as the team leader.

Yep. Been saying it since that time. Grimes might have worn the armband, but Ayew was the leader of that team.

I had a quick look at the Coventry Forum tonight after their play off loss. This comment struck a chord with me 😊 -

"I know I’m in the minority here, but Grimes ain’t all that. He’s great on the ball, he just receives it way too deep and is not adventurous enough.
Receiving the ball deeper than the CB’s against a low block and then slowing it down is mental"
Just copy and paste everything we as Swans fans have been saying. That made me laugh. He was the next mesiah when he signed. Yet did they know he loves a back pass and sitting deep 😂😂😂

I heard some rumblings that he wasn’t the Mr nice guy behind the scenes.
I heared that too. He is seen in high regard for welcoming new players and professional on the pitch. But it's rumoured that he had a lot of power (based on his position) and that would explain alot. Plus not many turned out for his leaving.

It was said, William's, Grimes and Coleman did a presentation to convince Ben. Yiu could see why Ben would be pissed. Weeks later Grimes does one. On reflection, Ben would of seen it's the best thing happen to the team, club and himself. He has been able to become the captain that Grimes was not. Ben will never be perfect in his role but you can see how much he has taken to the role. Many say that you don't need a strong voice on the pitch. And though I have never played the game it's clear we needed a strong voice. Grimes used to turn his back and blow his nose and say nothing. Ben, shouts at players for not doing things right. That's a captain.

Yes there was a report that when he said his goodbye's at the ground only 2 or 3 acknowledged him. The entire rest of the team ignored him

In the interest of fairness mind, Coventry fans on Twitter seem more than happy with him.

I have a feeling we'll have a better season than Coventry next season. Think Grimes' "style" is going to infect the rest of the team and make them go backwards.
Yep, we’ll be a different animal next season and I’m positively optimistic.
Let’s hope when we play Cov, Our former no 8 is still on the set pieces!

Just like that poster on the Coventry forum I find myself very much in the minority on Grimes.

His average Fotmob rating has been above 7 in each one of the last 7 seasons. I doubt there is another player in the Championship with that sort of consistency of performance. In the last 5 years his average has been 7.2 or better, putting him in the top 5 per cent in the league. And though pass completion, touches and pass accuracy have played their part in achieving those figures, he's above average this season alone on goals, expected goals, shots, shots on target, assists, expected assists (98th percentile), accurate long balls, chances created (94th percentile), successful crosses, successful dribbles, recoveries.

I understand that people have tired of low tempo football, and I share that sentiment, and Grimes played his part in that, but it's just too easy to pile on now that he's left. Some sort of objectivity and fair-mindedness is never a bad thing.

He's only been there two minutes. They'll eventually cotton on.

No doubt they've also got those weirdo twitter accounts like some of our fans did, spamming the place out with pass completion and "progressive" pass stats to "prove" how great he is.

No idea, I lost all interest in him when he was no longer our player. But I always see tweets discussing him on my feed due to Swans fans commenting on them.
