Welcome to the updated matchday thread 😂

Can we build on today's excellent win?

Of course we can, weds will be well up for it and I just hope cooper sets us up to combat the early onslaught.

Do you sense a recovery of confidence based on that second half

It's not confidence, it's the 4 day break we had to work on the training pitch, I think the 4 day break has saved Cooper's job.

I think it was Ayew and other seniors laying down some ground rules.

We have had a few games where we’ve had a good half.
The difference yesterday was Millwall's defending and our finishing / willingness to shot when in space.

Ah I see your narrative nicely developing

When we win it is in spite of Cooper
When we lose it is because of him

The much better (and correct) one is to criticise when it is necessary to and praise when it is due. Yesterday was the latter.

And watch again exactly what Ayew did when he scored - there is no way that was because of a "laying of some ground rules" - that was a show of solidarity for the boss.

You don't like - and have never liked - Steve Cooper we get it. But sometimes don't add to the narrative even when he gets things right

I'm very unsure of Cooper and I particularly dislike his stubborness and (apparent) inability to learn lessons or change tactically. That said Andre sprinting straight to him spoke volumes on his feelings to his boss.

As you said criticism/praise should be expected at the appropriate moments and to the appropriate levels.

It's fine margins. The first 25 minutes on Saturday we were as garbage as has become the norm, before something suddenly seemed to click a bit, and Millwall backed off too (but let's give us the credit for making them). It was better but it isn't the performance that now seems might have been written into folklore...like Norwich was. It was, however so encouraging and a blessed relief. The feeling after a result like that is just great and Lowe took his goals so well it filled me with admiration. To do that when you have been awful for weeks speaks volumes for the depths of his self belief. If it boosts the whole team confidence, I'm hoping to see them build on it and impose themselves on Wednesday on Tuesday 🤣.

Has it convinced me about Cooper. No way Julie. But it's given him some breathing space to try and show he can adapt to circumstances. I hope I'm eating more of Kate Humble come next Sunday with the play offs pretty much bagged and (for lifey) Watford hoving into sight. We have the two bottom clubs to play so blowing that would be a serious kick in the nuts. We don't want Reading to have a sniff by the time we go there.

I am as guilty as most, not all maybe, on a bit of duality and confusion now and then. The love in between Steve and Andre has been really good for us, the management and the club.

Steve listens to Andre and Wayne and no doubt Matt and now Conor H. However I feel the relationship that has been carefully nurtured with the captain of Ghana and our club has kept us in contention.

I know Andre is expensive and I know many have a valued opinion that we should not have re-signed the man. I disagree, we have been very lucky, to some extent, putting aside the argument that we could have done better financially. Sure we could have and sure we should have etc etc. You get my drift.

The Ayew family is a high performing unit and with any luck Andre and Steve will continue to pull us into shape especially during the potentially very short term that we have left.

That first goal against the Bricks was a thing of beauty and the celebration one of mutual respect from two winners who operate at the top of their profession.

ps the coffee here is good lol

The only thing I'll say Phil is something I spotted in Lowe's and Cooper's post match (separate) interviews. Lowe said something along the lines of the players liking playing that way, and Cooper (separate interview) shook his head in awe at how brave the players were playing that way. Could be red herrings I know, but it wouldn't surprise me if the all had a get together to see how the rot could be stopped. Maybe one or two (or more) wanted to play a more passing game? Either way, they all deserve credit for the performance and how they approached the game - hopefully some lessons learned.

I think we'll ease past Sheff W btw.

Opinions on AA can be very schizophrenic. He can go from tireless grafter carrying the team almost single handed to lazy liability within the space of a couple of games.

For what the total package cost you'd have to say re-signing him was a mistake, but on the other hand I doubt we'd have got anywhere near the playoffs without him either this season or last so maybe ultimately he'll be worth it. Definitely so if somehow we make our way back to the PL this season.

You know what it's sometimes like when one steps forward - many step back. It would have been interesting to see how other players could step up if Ayew were to be rested, but I can't see that (ever?) happening.
