We need to show far more command and control from midfield - instead of the scurrying, scrappy reactive stuff.

Composure under pressure will be key for this one. Let's hope Prem League LOB and Franco have that in their locker, a big test for sure.

2-1 win to the Swans if we can emulate our Grimes-esque command, control and composure under pressure.
1-3 loss and inevitable implosion if we fail to emulate those high standards.

Klopp used Dortmund managerial post to change game into pressing and transition intensity. You can be sent to Coventry by going backwards and sideways.

Assuming the players are fit I would have absolutely zero issues with the exact same team taking the field for this one as the Blackburn game. Every player was superb and justified keeping their places in my eyes.

Preston will hopefully still be knackered after playing their FA Cup tie only 3 days prior compared to the 10 day break that we have had. If we go at them with intensity and hunger like the Blackburn game then I think we will have too much in the locker for them.

I agree. I think you have to play same 11 and take advantage of any fatigue Preston may have. You would like to think they will reward us with a result for this, let's hope it's not another one of those Night and Days games. Aka... They look shadow of the team from Saturday.

Let's hope we back up the Blackburn performance with something similar unlike the next game after our Bristol City win.

Hopefully we can have some consistency and effort across the pitch in the remaining games

Would hope for a win there and at least a draw against Boro.

Difficult I know, but March will be testing to say the least.

Let's keep a good buffer before we go into April against relegation threatened clubs where anything can happen.

Every time this fixture comes around I think about that wonderful day in 1981.
I haven't been there since and I'm not sure why. Maybe subconsciously I don't want to change my last memory of Deepdale?

I enjoyed 81 there but also 2008 being behind the goal for that Bodde effort. Not been since. We need more southern teams in this league. If we can get rid of Leeds, Burnley, Sheff Utd, Hull, Stoke and Cardiff out of the Championship and replace with the bottom 3 of the prem with Birmingham ,Wrexham and Wycombe that would make a great league next season

That is exactly why I’ve never gone since. I should have followed the same recipe after having one good night in the top rank.

Preston away 1986 is my best away trip. Ever. Nothing to do with the score (lost 2-1) but more to do with being 17 and everything seeming just fking awesome right then. A trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach after the game with FOSCA might have something to do with it. I seem to be getting sentimental about days past today.

Back on topic.....

By all accounts Joey has stepped up. He needs to make his mark and fill Grimes' massive boots - we need to see a marked improvement in our midfield cohesion and control. He now is the very last remaining shred of our unique, much heralded identity.

In Joey we must trust.....
