UPDATED: 10 April 2021

The Swans get to play their rearranged game against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night buoyed by the weekend win at Millwall that gave us our first goals (and win) in five games. A win at Hillsbrough could well be enough to secure the play off position and the simple message to Steve Cooper and his side should be "same again please" after the Millwall game.

This is the original matchday thread that was created for the original date back in February which was postponed and resurrected for the rearranged date.

As ever on Planet Swans we have for you some of the most comprehensive pre-match coverage in our matchday thread that will bring you all we need to know over the next few days as well as all the chat during the match together with every post match follow up you would wish to read (and maybe even more!)

Meet the Ref

View attachment Stephen Martin Referee.jpg

Saturday's Referee is Stephen Martin

Referee Stephen Martin will take charge of the Swans for the fourth time this season, and the 9th time overall on Saturday as we face Sheffield Wednesday. Martin was the man with the whistle for our fixtures at home to Millwall this season and the away trips to both Brentford and QPR.

Of course, we remember the Brentford game where Martin disallowed what we had hoped was a last minute winner for the Swans from Andre Ayew but the offside flag ruled it out. (You can read Jonathan Yeoman's Ref's Watch for that game here)

Martin also took charge of the Swans home fixture against Sheffield Wednesday back in July – a game that the Swans won 2-1
Overall his Championship record this season has seen him hand out 32 yellow cards and 2 reds in 15 appearances although both reds came in a recent meeting between Brentford and Luton.

The most amusing story of Martin though never grows tired of being told and that is where Newcastle fans – never the brightest – mixed him with Steve Martin the actor.

When Martin (the referee) sent off Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett in a Newcastle Championship match, the fans were disappointed by the decision which takes only one action for many. The toon fans took to Twitter to berate the referee for his performance but, not being the brightest, many of them were Tweeting the Hollywood actor who responded in true comedic style

Evidently, there's someone who's a bad referee with my name, and now there are thousands of English who won't go see my films anymore.

Some of the jibes aimed at the wrong account had been

  • @SteveMartinToGo should never referee at this level again
  • @SteveMartinToGo absolute shocker of a performance Steve. Reffing in the championship is not for you
  • I'm expecting that Henri Lansbury and @SteveMartinToGo will both be punished for bringing the game into disrepute tonight, cheating cant pay

Need Bidwell , Bennett, Hourihane, Ayew and possibly Naughton back for this one.

Morris looks handy to have to come on lets hope he gets more game time than Gykores in the league

Wednesday have won their last five home games so this could be trickier than their league position suggests.

It's a very valid point, think they are 1 defeat in the last 10 at Hillsborough. Not going to be an easy one this I don't think

Yep, they've picked up a lot. Although those wins were against lowly sides and an out of form Middlesbrough, so not necessarily an indication of what we might be in for.

We certainly need to keep up momentum though, take it seriously and and put last night behind us.

Potential banana skin this one, lets hope not and bring them 3pts back.

Now wer outa the cup, we've had a great transfer window, squad is the strongest we've had for ages, top of the table looks pretty much set...so everything should now be clear ahead for us. As far as i can see no injuries so am expecting us to really push on.
Really looks as if everyone pulling in same direction down there.
Away win. Season starts now i say.

Away win. Good decisions by Steve Cooper to rest Ayew and Hourihane in the cup. Must've been tempting to play them.

Yes, I agree that resting some of our older, key players (Bennett as well) was the correct approach by Cooper. Getting promotion is the only objective this season and we can then put a long-term financial plan in place.
